Chilterns Lifestyle Centre
March 2022
Where fitness, learning, and community come together in one amazing place.
The Chilterns Lifestyle Centre (CLC) is a transformative S&P project revitalising an ageing pools complex. This state-of-the-art facility seamlessly combines health and fitness amenities, a community centre, a library, a youth club, and a children’s nursery—all under one roof. The CLC brings community leisure activities into one modern, cohesive space.
Built on the principle of collocation, the CLC maximises the benefits of having complementary activities in close proximity. Whether attending a U3A session, visiting the library, or joining an exercise class, everything is seamlessly integrated. The swimming pools and exciting clip-and-climb area blend perfectly with the soft play zones and spacious café, creating a harmonious environment for fitness and fun. The centre features a wide, double-height central café / street, making navigation easy and fostering informal meeting and social spaces.
Designed as a community hub, the CLC prioritises accessible sports and fitness for everyone, rather than focusing on elite competition. Throughout the design process, feedback from CABE and Sport England was incorporated to ensure the highest standards were met.
